The reporting of gender-based violence and street harassment by the media, too often, homes in on one murderous story; on every tiny detail of that one horrific attack. This places it on a platform of its own, allowing it to be held far from the shadow our cultural norms would naturally cast onto it, turning it into the tale of one very unlucky woman. A simple case of wrong Place. Wrong time.
Alright Doll is a series of sculptural and animation works that explore the media’s reporting of gender-based violence and street harassment. It forces us to widen our line of sight and question the myth of the unlucky woman.
